School
NOTE: The objectives I state are purely deduction. And they're probably correct, too.

Coloured earstick rule
Objective(s) of rule
1. Keep students "neat"
2. To prevent students looking too outrageous
3. Ultimately, to prevent us spoiling the reputation of the school

Shooting them down one by one

1. Keep students "neat".
1. Come on. It's just coloured earsticks. Those make you messy? By God.

a) There isn't a horrible change to your appearance
As you all know, the basic shape of an earstick is... a stick. What I don't get is, if you allow transparent earsticks, why not solid coloured? There isn't much different between both, and solid-coloured earsticks are barely recognisable to random passers-by who don't stare at every little part of you scrutinising you (i.e. the people who frequently complain to school). It's not like wearing bright pink earsticks will make people think you're a messy little hobo that begs on the streets of Geylang.

b) It's more convenient
What's more these coloured earsticks can take you from school to home to church to tuition to shopping malls and fancy dinners. I understand that they're cheap and you can buy more pairs; however in this financial situation even single digits count - and why waste time changing ear accessories all the time? One pair for everything - make use of earsticks' versatility.

2. To prevent students looking too outrageous.
2. Outrageous? Psch. This rule is outrageous.

a) As an echo from Clause 1: Sub-clause "a", earsticks don't suddenly make you look like some bimbo or aunty walking down Orchard Road. They do make you look that much more classy (and that's a good thing). However earsticks ALONE do NOT affect your overall school uniform in terms of being too fancy. And we're not even talking dangling earrings - now THAT makes an impression. Compared to earsticks though? Not even a bit.

3. Smart people know how to judge - and earsticks barely count in first impressions

a) If you're smart, you'll know not to judge people too quickly. I mean, for overall look it's pretty accurate sometimes (cakey make-up, lots of jewellery, skimpy clothes = prostitute\auntie trying to mask her real age) but no one, NO ONE, judges people SOLELY based on ear accessories.

b) Perhaps earsticks do play a part in first impressions. However, it's so tiny that you can't even feel it. For example, one day you met an RGS girl at the MRT. She has these funky fuschia earsticks (and take it you know it wasn't allowed in RGS). Does that make you think she fails at her subjects, smokes or takes drugs? Hardly. I'd think she was a fun, bright person. How about this: You go for your first job interview. Are your earrings the first thing the interviewer will look at? BIG FAT NO. People are smart (Correction: Most people are smart).

c) This is more of a side note - I believe student's comfort is also important - perhaps more important than the school's reputation. Just because we have to wear the uniform regardless of its comfort level, that doesn't mean they should make it feel like we're wearing cardboard. Or really tight skirts. As tight as MM's.

With this, I can conclude that solid, coloured earsticks do not give Crescent Girls' a negative image. Solid-coloured earsticks are no messier than transparent ones. In fact, it's the contrary - they improve the look of our uniform. Therefore, this rule should be abolished.
